PANTAI PARANGTRITIS, Excellent View for a Sunset Walk

Parangtritis is located 27 km south of Yogyakarta and easily accessible by public transportation that operate up to 17.00 pm as well as private vehicles. The afternoon before sunset is the best time to visit this most popular beach in Yogyakarta. 

In the north of the sea there is a high rock which always dropps water from the top rock, it calls Parang (rocks), Tritis (dropping water). The Name of Parangtritis comes on the nature phenomenon.

When the sun is above us at noon, sand dunes become another beautiful landscape of the beach. Coloring silver when the sun brightly shining in a day. The sand dunes beach is the only one sand beach in the world. It has unique ecosystem. Bendi or Andong, a tourism transportation run by horse, will take tourists around the beach, enjoying unique ecosystem of the beach. 

When the sun is leaning to the west and the weather is sunny, it is time for having fun. Enjoying the sunset while having fun conquering sand dune with ATV (All-terrain Vehicle) or walking along the beach with a carriage in the romantic evening.

There also natural water steam resources in another part of Parangtritis area. People believes tht the steam water can cure skin problem. Lot of people go to the Parangwedang, a big natural water steam. In the west, Depok Beach, a place where fisherman anchor their traditional boat also a place where can get cheap and fresh fish, squid or crib from the fisher. Walk on the north, a beautiful view of Parangtritis Beach can seeing at the top of Gembirowati Hill. In a direct access, Gupit Hill also being a started place of paralayang sports. 

Parangtritis Beach is very closely related to the legend of Ratu Kidul (Queen of South). Many Javanese people believe that Parangtritis Beach is the gate of Ratu Kidul's magical kingdom who controls the southern sea. She believes wearing green dress and lives in a castle deep of the south sea. The myth says people not allow to wear the green clothes or dress if comes to the sea. If it's infringement, the princess would take the soul of the visitor to her castle.

Besides of 'Ratu kidul' myth, Parangtritis beach also has another myth. In 1410, there were a big battle between two monk in the south, there were Syech Bela-belu, a Hinduism monk and Syech Maulana Maghribi, an Moslem trader from the Arabian. Belu-belu came to challenge Maghribi into a battle of fishing a fish in the south sea. Maghribi won and stayed in the south beach, then Bela-belu became his follower.
